Orlagh Cassidy Best Voice / Best Audiobook 2014

Orlagh makes Best Voice & Best Audiobook on The Year In Audiobooks 2014 at AudioFile Magazine. She tops the list twice for Best Voice in Fiction & Classics for her narration of The Bees by Laline Paull and Driving With The Top Down by Beth Harbison. The Bees also scores Best Audiobook in the category.

"Narrator Orlagh Cassidy's enchanting performance enriches this debut novel about how Flora, a lowly sanitation bee, is able to rise through the caste system to help her hive survive attack, starvation, and destruction to meet a bright new future. Cassidy's vivid, engaging characterizations quickly transport listeners into the busy world of the bees, in which the queen rules and the priestesses maintain the hive mindset. As Flora transcends her destiny, moving up through the ranks to forager, Cassidy expertly conveys the bee's astonishment at each new discovery, curiosity about the outside world, and bravery when defending her sisters against attack. The success of this audiobook lies in Cassidy's respectful yet lively narration, which enables listeners to connect with the story on a number of levels."

"Orlagh Cassidy gives each woman a unique voice, keeping a consistent pace and tone as the chapters alternate between each of them. Colleen, who is uncertain about her marriage, is the "mom" on the trip, taking care of the others while sorting out her own problems. Cassidy gives her a perky-sounding voice in dialogue, but her uncertainty shows through in her thoughts. Tamara, Colleen's teenage niece, alternates between being sullen and full of life, while Bitty's slight Southern accent differentiates her from the others. Overall, Cassidy provides the perfect voices for this fascinating story of living the lives we have instead of the ones we envisioned."
